Illinois Art Grants
Artists and art organizations in Illinois have various avenues when looking for funding. The Illinois Arts Council offers a variety grants for organizations, schools and individual artists. Local community foundations, non-profit foundations and corporate foundations also offer funding for programs in the arts. The Grantsmanship Center (tgci.com) provides links and resources to funding sources, both private and public, for organizations and artists in Illinois.
Arts & Foreign Language Grants
The Illinois Arts Council and the Illinois Board of Education created the Arts & Foreign Language Program in 2006 to help public schools, charter schools, vocational schools and public university laboratory schools in Illinois create or enhance their art and foreign language programs. The program runs for four years. The first year is the planning stage and applicants can receive $10,000 to $40,000. The second through fourth years are the implementation stage and applicants can receive $10,000 to $100,000. Deadlines vary annually.
Arts-in-Education Residency Program
The Arts-in-Education Residency Program is funded by the Illinois Arts Council and matches artists with schools and non-profits for a period of two weeks to six months. The council created this program to enhance arts education in the schools and for the general public. Artists must apply to the residency program and then schools, colleges and universities, libraries, youth and senior centers, churches, school districts, local arts agencies, cities, and hospitals may apply for funding. There is one deadline annually for this program.
Individual Artist Support
The Illinois Arts Council provides funding to individual artists through their Individual Artist Support program. Funds may be used for professional development or for a specific project. The Individual Artist Professional Development track provides $500 or $750 to an individual artist and does not require a cash match by the artist receiving the grant. The Individual Artist Project track provides $2,000, $3,500, or $5,000 in grants but a 25 percent cash match is required. Deadlines vary for this program.
Arts Program Grants
Arts Program Grants are offered by the Illinois Arts Council for general operating support and project support. Arts organizations and colleges and universities in Illinois are eligible to apply. Funding amounts range from $500 to $10,000 and there is one deadline annually. Program areas for these grants are arts-in-education, dance, ethnic and folk arts, literature, media arts, multi-disciplinary projects, music, presenters development, theater and visual arts.
Community Foundation of the Quincy Area Arts & Culture Grants
The Community Foundation of the Quincy Area Arts & Culture Grant program provides grants to non-profit organizations and public schools for arts and culture as well as community development, education, health and human services. In Illinois, the applicant must be located in Adams, Brown, Hancock or Pike County. Arts & Culture grants are awarded through the Community Foundation of the Quincy Area's competitive field of interest funds and grant amounts range from $150 to $5,000. The competitive unrestricted funds also offer grants for arts and culture and has a maximum amount of $1,000. The annual deadline is June 1st for both both programs.
